When asked about the retirement of Kansas State Coach Bill Snyder, Penn State's Joe Paterno had this to say..... " Bill Snyder is a great guy. Sometimes you guys don't realize how fond I am of some of these guys or how much I respect the kind of job they do. Hayden Fry did a great job when you look at some of the people he had on his staff coaching. Snyder was one of them. Kirk Ferentz and Barry Alvarez, who has now given it up, was on that staff. There are about six or seven guys that I know. I think both Stoops kids were on Hayden Fry's staff at one time. Snyder is, again, one of those people that people don't quite appreciate because of the fact that he is not an out-going guy. He is not a guy that promotes himself, but he is a great football coach. He did a great job at Kansas State and is somebody I admire very much both as a person and as a football coach. I hate to see some of those guys get out of it. I hope we have young people who are coming into it who are coming into it with the same kind of commitment to what college football is all about and not necessarily how much money they are going to make. Bill was never that way. Bill and I have spent a lot of time together on different Nike trips and talked a lot and a lot of his coaches have been around here. Paul Dunn was a GA for us who play at Pitt who was a line coach for him and went to Kentucky. Different guys who have been around me in one fashion or the other have been associated with Bill. I wish him luck. I know he knows what he wants to do, but I am sorry to see him go."
