As another college football regular season ends, another bowl-selection controversy begins. And the Master Coaches had plenty to say on the matter during their latest teleconference call to pick the Top 25 teams.

While there's fnally no debate as to which two teams should play for the National Championship this season, the biggest question the coaches discussed was "not who gets in as much as who gets left out."

According to former Ohio State head coach John Cooper, the Master Coaches agreed that Oregon and, once again, Auburn got "left out" during the Bowl Championship Series selection process. Bowl tie-ins and automatic conference bids aside, Cooper says that 10-1 Oregon and 9-2 Auburn both deserve to play in a BCS bowl, and there's several reasons why the Master Coaches voted them among the top eight teams in the final regular-season MCS Poll.

"If you're going to have a championship, why not take the top eight teams?" Cooper asked. "Why even have a vote if you don't take the top eight football teams?"

Those questions, and the controversies that continue to surround the bowl-selection process, are the reasons why the Master Coaches Survey was put in place this season.

"Who knows better than us coaches as to who the best football teams are?" said Coooper, who pointed out the Master Coaches' selection process of reviewing game films and discussing each team in depth during weekly teleconferemce calls. "We've been saying that all year."
