Master Coaches have their say....a Poll with substance.
They own among themselves over 2,900 career victories. They have coached in every major Division I-A conference. They've won dozens of bowl games and five national championships. They've coached with -- and against -- all the legends. Now, they want to help fix the game
they love.
Sixteen coaches with Hall of Fame resumes are joining forces to bring you the Master Coaches Survey (MCS), a revolutionary approach to ranking the nation's top teams. Unlike other rankings, the MCS Poll is determined by voters with the highest level of expertise and integrity available. And in an unprecedented twist, the Master Coaches will watch all of the teams they're evaluating EVERY week. No other poll can make that distinction.
Find out how these gridiron greats are going to deliver the first college football poll of substance and how they intend to bring credibility back to the
system of deciding who plays for the national championship.
Who are the Master Coaches?
Their names are synonymous with college football excellence. The Master Coaches are all College Football Hall of Fame members, or former coaches who are on track to be Hall of Fame members in the future.
John Cooper, Vince Dooley, Pat Dye, LaVell Edwards, Hayden Fry, Don James, Frank Kush, Dick MacPherson, Bill Mallory, Don Nehlen, John Ralston, John Robinson, Bo Schembechler, R.C. Slocum, Gene Stallings and George Welsh.
You grew up watching them pace the sidelines every Saturday. You saw them lead their teams to victories in Rose Bowls, Orange Bowls, Sugar Bowls and National Championship games. Now, it's time for them to give back to the game that gave them so much. Starting with their debut poll on September 28, 2005, these 16 Master Coaches will discuss team strengths and weaknesses every week of the season to separate the pretenders from the contenders. The evaluation process will be comprehensive, the standards beyond reproach.
“The Master Coaches Survey is unique because it is made up of three components… the most experienced coaches, who actually watch the games, and discuss and deliberate before they cast their vote,” said Andy Curtin, executive director of MCS. He added, “No other system has any of these components.”
How does MCS work?
While the college football world is buzzing each Saturday, the MCS staff will be hard at work, taping games and collecting vital statistics. That information will then be made available to each of the Master Coaches first thing Monday morning.
The coaches will take the next two days to watch film, evaluate each team on our watch list and make their individual projections. And finally, on Wednesdays, the coaches will meet via conference call to discuss their evaluations.
The poll will be released weekly, every Wednesday, at 4 p.m. ET on this Master Coaches' Web site -- www.mcspoll.com
The MCS Mission
The MCS founders understand it is not possible for all of the top teams to play each other during the season to determine the undisputed national champion. But the MCS can guarantee that every top team will be watched and evaluated by our Master Coaches each week, and that our rankings will
be based solely on the strengths and weaknesses of each team -- not on popularity or fragmented information.
What’s on Tap?
The Master Coaches are going to bring to you the best commentary and daily updates throughout the college football and bowl season. They will be available to you, the college football fan, to ask questions via our message board, chat rooms and forums, our call-in show and live webcast events called “MCS Chalk Talk™”, and much, much more.
We want to provide the college football fan with the most unique experience, putting you in touch with the Master Coaches, who helped grow the game into what it is today. Master Coach John Robinson said, “We intend to be the ‘Benchmark of Collegiate Football Polls.’”
