Exclusive: Master Coach Bill Mallory
comments on the NFL Draft prospects at Linebacker
April 23, 2006
By MCSPOLL.com staff
"A.J. Hawk is the best linebacker in the country without question," said Master Coach Bill Mallory. "He will undoubtedly be the first linebacker taken in the draft."
Hawk's teammate, Bobby Carpenter, is also a great player. He was injured at the end of last season, but will still be taken early in the draft.
While Hawk and Carpenter are two of the better outside backers in the country, Mallory likes D'Qwell Jackson at the inside linebacker position. "When I talk about an inside linebacker, I first have to mention D'Qwell Jackson," Mallory added. Maryland's Jackson had a good 40 time in the combine and Coach Mallory believes he would be suited for a 4-3 defense somewhere in the NFL.
Coach Mallory
also likes Abdul Hodge out of Iowa. "He is a good active player. I think, too, he could play in special teams."
